A digital illustration of a smiling African American woman wearing a beige headwrap, red glasses, gold hoop earrings, and a black t-shirt that reads “MORE THAN AVERAGE.” She sits at a wooden table, writing in an open notebook with a pen in her right hand while her left hand rests gently on the page. She wears layered gold necklaces and a smartwatch. The background is a muted beige tone, giving the artwork a warm, vintage feel.

I came across this article this morning "What are Mini Books and Why You Should Publish Them." by Mark Thompson on Medium. It got me thinking.

Why not try and write a mini book?

I have always wanted to write a book, and I have quite a few ideas for one. However, traditional books take forever to write. Authors spend months and months writing, editing, and editing again, and the publishing. According to Mark, a mini book is the best way to cut that time down significantly and it allows you to write something that is more specific. Mark said he wrote a mini book in 14 days and then was an Amazon Bestseller in 20 days.

What is appealing about the idea of a mini book is that one book can be between 7,000 to 15,000 and it can also be a great way to test a book idea without having to spend so much time before hand.

Now fortunately for me, I have nothing but time. I am curious if it took Mark 14 days to write a mini book (I am assuming he had another job or at least responsibilities that prevented him from writing 6 hours a day or so) how long it will take me to write a mini book if spend most of my time over the next few days writing.

Google said it takes about 6.3 hours for someone to type 15,000 words. Based on that 15,000 words can be written in a day. However, spending that much time writing can be daunting if you aren't a big writer.

Knowing how my brain works and how I seem to jump from one thing to the next and then back, I am going to challenge myself.

3 days is all the time I will give myself to write a mini book.

If I commit at least roughly 2 hours a day over the next 3 days I should have my mini-book written and ready to publish.

Today will be Day 1.

Why am I doing this you may wonder. Well, outside the fact I don't have a job and have nothing but time, I want to see what I am capable of. Right now, I am in the phase of life where I want to create and do as much as I can and see what happens. I am trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and overthinking. I want to create stories and experiences so when I look back on my life I have so much to say about it. Plus, a mini book seems not to be too time consuming plus there really isn't that much that can go wrong with it.

So here we go...3-Day Challenge!
